Sessions Overview

By Madeleine Welsh

This session explores how early experiences within education systems shape the long-term experiences of neurodivergent individuals into adulthood. While much of the focus on neurodevelopmental differences is placed on childhood support, the long-term effects of misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and systemic expectations are often overlooked. Behaviours associated with neurodivergence are frequently interpreted in ways that do not reflect the internal experience of the individual. Over time, repeated misunderstandings can influence confidence, identity, and how individuals engage with education, work, and social environments.

Drawing from lived experience and broader observations, this presentation examines how systems such as schools, workplaces, and social expectations contribute to the way neurodivergent adults experience the world. It highlights the gap between support systems that exist in theory and how they are experienced in practice.

Cultural Identity in the Age of AI
By Mary Thomas

As AI and automation increasingly shape how we work, connect, and make decisions, there is a growing risk of losing the very elements that make us human: context, culture, and connection.
In this talk, Mary Thomas explores the intersection of diversity, inclusion, and emerging technologies through the lens of lived experience and community leadership. She highlights how bias, exclusion, and disconnection can unintentionally be embedded into automated systems—and why human-centered design and cultural intelligence are critical in addressing these gaps.

Blending storytelling with practical insight, this session invites leaders and organizations to rethink inclusion beyond policy, toward creating environments where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued, even within digital and AI-driven spaces.
Attendees will leave with actionable perspectives on fostering belonging, mitigating bias, and building inclusive systems that honor both innovation and humanity

Sessions Overview

By Sylvia Glanton

This session cuts through the noise and gets practical. As a business systems strategist and automation consultant who has built solutions for entrepreneurs, veterans, and underserved communities, I’ve seen firsthand how automation can either close the gap or widen it — depending entirely on who’s at the design table. Attendees will walk away with a clear understanding of why diverse representation in AI and automation isn’t just an ethical choice — it’s a performance strategy. We’ll break down real examples of how biased systems have failed marginalized communities, and more importantly, how inclusive design practices produce smarter, more effective, and more profitable outcomes.

This talk will cover three core areas: how to audit your current systems for hidden bias, how to build automation workflows that center equity and access from the start, and how underrepresented entrepreneurs and professionals can position themselves as leaders — not just consumers — in the automation economy.

By Dr. Tajah M. Gross

This session reframes ethical leadership as an active muscle that must be exercised, strengthened, and intentionally designed into every automated workflow. Drawing from the Ethilect™ Ethical Intelligence Framework, participants will explore how automation, data pipelines, and AI-enabled decision systems can either deepen structural inequities or become powerful tools for accountability, transparency, and justice.

Through a guided, hands-on ethical automation simulation, attendees will examine real-world scenarios where AI outputs appear precise, neutral, and efficient — yet hide subtle forms of harm. Leaders will learn how to interrupt automated decision pathways using three signature tools: Prompt Ledger™ for transparent reasoning, Insight Catalyst™ for diagnostic pattern recognition, and Method Matchmaker™ for choosing the right intervention strategy. Together, these tools create built-in safeguards that help institutions prevent downstream consequences before they occur.

WODIL Conference Coffee BreakThe coffee break at WODIL is more than just a pause in the schedule—it’s a refreshing moment that blends relaxation with connection. Sessions Overview

By Emmanuel Chukwu

My session delivers a vision of what becomes possible when we stop treating diversity as a constraint to manage and start treating it as a design principle to engineer:

Three Tools for Algorithmic Inclusion:

1. The Algorithmic Equity Audit Protocol (AEAP)
Look at your workforce planning systems and see, with mathematical precision, whether they’re building bridges or barriers. The AEAP is a 22-question diagnostic that reveals whether your AI-driven scheduling, performance tracking, and workforce planning systems amplify human potential or accidentally filter it out.
This is battle-tested assessment built from analyzing 200+ operations across 8 industries. It identifies the 6 “stealth filter” mechanisms that eliminate diverse candidates before human decision-makers ever see the bias happening. It comes with an Excel template and scoring rubric you can deploy the day you return to work.

What it unlocks: The ability to see your operational architecture the way your employees experience it (not as neutral systems, but as the daily reality that determines whose talent gets recognized and whose gets ignored).

2. The Capacity Architecture Framework (CAF)
This is the roadmap from where you are to where you need to be. It’s a 4-stage implementation pathway that transforms “algorithmic surveillance” (systems that monitor and penalize) into “algorithmic enablement” (systems that recognize and amplify human capability in all its forms).

The framework includes decision trees for the three critical choice points where most organizations accidentally encode exclusion:

• Shift design: How do we create flexibility that serves both business needs and human reality?
• Metric selection: What are we actually measuring, and what talent are we accidentally making invisible?
• Feedback loops: How do our systems learn and adapt to human complexity rather than force humans into algorithmic simplicity?
I’ve used this framework across military operations (where mission success depends on getting it right), e-commerce fulfillment (where speed matters but people matter more), and manufacturing environments (where safety and productivity must coexist with dignity).

What it unlocks: A concrete pathway to build operations where diverse teams don’t just survive automation. They thrive because of it.

3. The Workforce Diversity Dashboard (WDD)
This is your early warning system. It tracks seven leading indicators that predict algorithmic demographic sorting 8 months before your diversity metrics show the problem. By the time traditional HR dashboards detect bias, you’ve already lost talent, credibility, and competitive advantage.
The WDD includes data collection protocols compliant with Canadian employment law and tracks signals like: schedule flexibility utilization patterns, performance metric variance by demographic cohort, promotion pathway visibility, and four other predictive measures that let you intervene before damage occurs.

What it unlocks: The ability to lead instead of react. To design the future instead of repair the past.

Why This Matters to Edmonton Right Now:
Alberta is living through one of the most significant workforce transitions in North American history. The shift from traditional energy to diversified tech, advanced manufacturing, and innovation economy is changing what work looks like AND redefining who gets to participate.
Edmonton’s workforce is 30%+ immigrant population. Your competitive advantage isn’t despite that diversity. It’s because of it. The same AI-powered systems being implemented to “optimize” logistics, fulfillment, and manufacturing operations will filter out exactly the talent that makes Edmonton exceptional.
When scheduling algorithms assume everyone can work any shift, they eliminate parents managing childcare. When performance systems prioritize speed over accuracy, they penalize workers learning English as a second language who make fewer mistakes but communicate slower. When promotion pathways require specific credential combinations, they exclude Indigenous workers with traditional knowledge and immigrants with international experience that doesn’t translate to Canadian credential frameworks.

In this session, Cecily Welch, CPA, CFP®, known as The Accountant You Can Understand® and The Tax Translator™, explores how tax systems intersect with leadership, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility. Drawing from decades of experience translating complex financial rules into practical insight, she blends warmth, humor and depth to make complex tax issues accessible without sacrificing accuracy and rigor. She will examine how financial and tax structures influence who is able to participate in emerging economic opportunities and who is left navigating systems they were never taught to understand.

Sessions Overview

By Jivi Saran

In this breakout session, Jivi Saran, MBA, DBA(c) redefines diversity and inclusion as the foundational architecture of Conscious Capitalism—a system where business becomes a force for equitable prosperity and human advancement in the age of AI. Drawing from her doctoral research in Quantum Leadership and Conscious Capitalism in Finance, she reveals how conscious decision-making and value-driven leadership can transform organizations into adaptive, ethical ecosystems that integrate technology without losing their soul.

Through the lens of Quantum Business, Jivi demonstrates how leaders can move from linear control models to quantum coherence—where empathy, diversity of thought, and cultural awareness become the real algorithms driving innovation and sustainability. Participants will learn how to design organizations that balance profit with purpose, intelligence with intuition, and automation with authenticity.

By Christina Rodrigues

Canada’s Buy-Canadian momentum offers a rare policy lever to drive both economic resilience and social justice — if procurement is intentionally designed to include those historically excluded from mainstream supply chains. This session equips procurement leaders, policy-makers and equity champions with a pragmatic playbook to translate national purchasing power into measurable community prosperity for Indigenous, racialized, refugee and other marginalized entrepreneurs.

Drawing on CAMSC’s lived experience and proven practices, we unpack three strategic pillars: targeted market access, capability acceleration, and accountable contracting. Targeted market access dismantles administrative and informational barriers through simplified qualification, outreach strategies and set-aside mechanisms tailored to community contexts. Capability acceleration builds supplier readiness via bid coaching, consortium formation, mentorship and access to capital so diverse firms can scale into complex contracts. Accountable contracting embeds equity into procurement design—clear RFP language, social value clauses, tiered subcontracting, and transparent KPIs that convert commitments into actual spend and local impact.

Attendees will leave with concrete tools: sample RFP provisions that protect fairness while centering equity; a step-by-step roadmap to develop Indigenous- and community-focused supplier ecosystems; risk-mitigation techniques for integrating new suppliers; and metrics to track economic inclusion, job creation and community benefit. We’ll review real-world examples where inclusive procurement improved innovation, supply continuity and stakeholder relations, demonstrating that equitable sourcing is both a moral imperative and a strategic advantage.
