About The Speaker

Sydney Hampshire

Sydney Hampshire is a rehabilitation scientist from Edmonton, Alberta. Her recent thesis looked at creating a virtual reality manual wheelchair propulsion simulator for racing wheelchair athletes. This work grew out of her love for creating innovative technology to improve the lives of those with mobility challenges. Sydney's own struggles with limited mobility, the result of a stroke she suffered at age nine, and her quest to regain function while living in a remote community drew her into the field of rehabilitation. As a result, Sydney is innately passionate about the different rehabilitation strategies available to those with disabilities. Currently, she works with the Heroes in Mind, Advocacy and Research Consortium which aims to improve the health and quality of life of the Canadian military, veterans, public safety personnel, and their families through research, education, and service.
